It can be tempting to say something cutting and clever when another person cuts you down. Our human nature wants to hurt the other person just as much as we have been hurt. Consider these verses when you want to “zing” the person right back.
Proverbs 25:21-22 ESV “If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink, for you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you.”
James 3:7-8 ESV “For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.”
Proverbs 24:29 NASB “Do not say, ‘Thus I shall do to him as he has done to me; I will render to the man according to his work.’”
