31 Bible Verses to Give You Hope: Bearing Life’s Burdens

It feels as I get older, the baggage I carry around gets heavier. I had problems when I was younger, but they felt typical. Clear-cut. A difficult path that was defined by people who had gone before me, and I had a list of steps of what to do to overcome it or get through it. Then life inevitably got more complicated with unfamiliar problems. There weren’t easy solutions and seven simple steps to fix things. What was I to do?

Trust Jesus.

He tells us in Matthew 11:29-30 ESV, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Jesus is here with us! And He asks us not to take on ALL THE THINGS. We can set aside the burdens we have and exchange them for the ones He has given us. We don’t have to solve everything, fix everyone, or be everything to everybody. We can look to serve Him in the ways He has called us to. And yes, these ways could be hard or challenging, but if we are following His will, He will provide the strength.

Sometimes when we pray about this verse and how it applies to our lives, not one external circumstance will change. It could even get harder! But if we apply this to the insides of our lives, to our self-assigned responsibility as runner of the world and fixer of all the things, when we STOP TRYING TO BE GOD, we will find the rest for our souls. We will accept God’s direction and work at that, and not what we think will be best for everyone and everybody. Let’s seek after His light and easy yoke, and stop struggling under our own self-made, crushing, destructive yokes.
