31 Bible Verses to Give You Hope: Finding Peace

“Calgon, take me away!” was a television commercial for bubble bath when I was growing up. The frazzled woman would have so many challenges, but a bubble bath could transport her to a place of peace and tranquility. Who knew that a bubble bath could be so powerful?

It’s a silly commercial, to be sure, but it is also an example of the type of false peace that we often pursue instead of the peace found in Jesus Christ. We read in John 14:27 NIV, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Even though we know we will have troubles in this world, we often feel surprised, betrayed, and bewildered that trials show up on our doorstep. Jesus has left us with a promise that He will give us peace through the Holy Spirit. While a bubble bath, a weekend away, or a nap may provide refreshment, the peace we so longingly pursue is found in our Lord! Spending time with Him through reading the Bible, reflection, and prayer, will often bring that peace we desire.

Lord, you know our deep longing for peace. Please forgive us for trying to find peace in so many different places. Thank you that we can be finding peace in You. We love You! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

  1. I love the verse found in John 14:27. It’s one I was thinking about recently. Thank you for highlighting our true source of peace, Jesus.
