Overcoming Fear

Fear is behind so many problems, isn’t it? It hangs out with our need for control. It’s good buddies with our insecurities. It’s even around our need for attention. We are afraid we won’t get what we need from God, from our family, from our friends. So, we worry. We overcompensate. We make decisions based on fear. We justify our fears and we embrace them as part of us.

At some point, we get tired of dealing with fear. Maybe it’s the good opportunity not taken because of some risks; the bad situation that continued because of fearing the unknown; the important conversation never had because it seemed too scary. We are ready to put down our fears. How can we do that? Psalm 27:1 ESV puts it in perspective.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

Our God is so very big. Even the worst fears cannot stand when you start to understand who God is.

Below, I’ve written a prayer for myself today. God will hear the prayers of His children! If you find it hard to pray today, pray these words along with me. Otherwise, feel free to reflect on the verse above and pray it for your own heart and mind today.

Lord, I pray today that You will help me to not dwell on the worries of the day and of the future, nor dwell on the past. Instead, help me to pray to You and cast my burdens upon You. May I be grateful for who You are and what you have provided in my life, even trials. May You be the stronghold I run to. I ask these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.
