My sense of safety and need for security is well-honed. Too well-honed, if you ask me. I don’t just want to be physically safe. No, let’s add emotionally. And financially. And socially. And anything else you can think of. And I don’t want these things just for myself, no! I want all my family, friends, church, and the whole world to be safe. Not asking for too much, am I?
If you take a look outside, though, my desires for this safety and security for me and you are not being met. The older I get, the more out of control life seems to get. I can take safe, responsible actions but it doesn’t stop life from feeling out of control. The thing is, Jesus didn’t promise us peace in this world. In fact, He told them they would have trouble.
John 16:33 NASB “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
When I am looking to my circumstances for peace, then any peace found in those circumstances is, at best, fleeting. When I am in Christ and find my peace there, then I do have true peace.
How do I stay in that peace? By reading His Word. By dwelling on what I know to be true, and not what I speculate or fear could happen. By asking Him for that peace.
Look to Him for your peace today.
