“You are so strong,” I was told, after my husband’s heart attack last year. “I couldn’t get through that. God must really trust you.”
My husband’s heart attack came as a surprise, although the signs are evident with the benefit of hindsight. What had started as a day of him working on our roof with friends, turned into an ER visit, followed by, “I guess he did have a heart attack! Wow!” followed by an angiogram, then vascular surgery to clear the clot that had sprung up after the angiogram.
Honestly, I don’t feel like a strong person. God may have made me to be functional in emergencies. Some of that stems from the weakness of mine to think through all the problems that *could* happen, then to work through the “what would I do” in these scenarios. I’m one of those people who has a back up plan for most scenarios. It may be helpful at times, but it isn’t a healthy way to live my life.
Instead, the very best place to look for strength is our Lord. He is, by far, the best source of our strength.
This is my favorite verse, the first verse that as a high schooler, I really started to cling to and cling to as a Bible verse that God had for me (but not just me!) Philipians 4:13 NIV “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Knowing that God provides the strength for the challenges that He allows in my life is a necessary part of persevering through the trials.
I would love to hear from you about your favorite Bible verse about strength!
