Struggle is a part of life, but we fight against it vigorously. We assume because we are a “good enough” Christian, that maybe the really bad stuff isn’t supposed to happen to us. That’s not what the Bible says.
We may be struggling because of our own sin or someone else’s. We may be in a painful place because of circumstances beyond our control. We may be dealing with typical, everyday situations that are painful because we expected or wanted things to be different. So we ask God, “Why?”
I would rather ask God, “How?” and I think that James 1:2-4 answers that.
James 1:2-4 NIV “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
How do I get through these trials? With joy, perseverance, and hope, knowing that God is using this test of our faith to grow our faith up.
