Does the word “forgiveness” make you uncomfortable? Maybe you find it hard to feel forgiven by God, or maybe you have difficulty forgiving others. Start preparing your heart for forgiveness by reading these five Bible verses about forgiveness.
We can find forgiveness through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross
“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.” Ephesians 1:7 ESV
God honors our repentance and forgives us
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 ESV
God’s forgiveness holds; He doesn’t go back on it
“As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.” Psalm 103:12 ESV
We need to forgive others as God has forgiven us (from the parable of the unforgiving servant)
“Then his master summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’” Matthew 18:32-33 ESV
We can show love, as God has shown love to us, by not keeping track of their sins against us
“[Love] keeps no record of wrongs.” 1 Corinthians 13:5c NIV
Father, we are so thankful for Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins. We pray that we will seek You for forgiveness and that we will show forgiveness to others. Thank You for these Bible verses about forgiveness that remind me of your truth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
