A Week of Finding Joy: Who

Remember playing tag or hide and seek or any number of childhood games that involved being chased? With only your playground honor at stake, you ran as fast as you could to the predetermined “safe” location. Reaching it, you probably cheered or whooped or maybe even threw out a “neener neener neener!” (a childish taunt, in case you are unfamiliar.) You didn’t have to worry anymore. You were untouchable.

We have a much better refuge than that when we run to God. Psalm 5:11 ESV proclaims, “But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you.” When we run to Him, we not only find a trustworthy place of protection. We can also rejoice! We find our joy in our place of protection, our living and mighty God. Nothing else you trust in will ultimately give you the everlasting joy our Father gives us.

So in our journey of finding joy today, remember the Who of finding joy: God! Tomorrow, we’ll be looking at Who, part 2: Trust!
