A Week of Finding Joy: Why

Most people have a friend who is some degree of “mopey,” or maybe they are aware enough to realize they are that friend. I know that I tend to be the friend that mopes about problems, at least for a little while. “Woe is me,” I might as well cry out at times. While those with more melancholy dispositions have these tendencies, everyone has moments where they need a reason to find joy.

Even though we know we can trust God and find joy in Him, it is easy to get distracted and overwhelmed by life. God always wants us to be looking for that joy in Him, because it stays even when circumstances make you unhappy. The Lord gives us each day, and asks us to rejoice. 1 Thessalonians 5:16 ESV tells us to “Rejoice always.” It can be a tall order, but God gives us the reason to rejoice in Psalm 118:124 ESV. “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” It reminds us that the Lord has already figured out His plan for our lives and that we can rejoice in that, for this day is part of that journey. It may be a more difficult day of the journey, but as we trust Him, it is easier to find that joy in Him.

Thanks for joining me on this journey of finding joy. Today was “Why”. Tomorrow we will look at how we should have joy!
