Finding Hope During Trials

“This is the middle of the testimony.” My husband has said this to me when we are going through a trial and something has clearly begun and we don’t know when or how it will end. Every Christian wants to be inspired by a moving story about how God changed your life through an incredibly challenging time. No one wants to live it. My husband’s words remind me that God is using the hard times for His own purposes, to draw us and/or other people closer to Him. But when you are in the middle of hard times, it can be hard to find hope.

When we put our hope in money, it may feel good for now. But fortunes can be won or lost in a single day.

When we put our hope in another person to provide for all your needs, you are asking them to be a perfect person, forever. No person can do that. Eventually, you will be let down.

When we put our hope in Christ, we put our hope in the One who is worthy! Putting our hope in imperfect things will disappoint us. He is worthy of our hope! Revelation 5:12 ESV says “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” We can put our hope in our worthy Lord, even through hard trials.

So when the end of the story to a particular hurt or trial hasn’t happened yet, when you can’t tie a pretty bow and talk about the redeemed relationship, the happy ending, or even just the conclusion of the hardest time in your life, you can take comfort in the fact that there is still hope for what you have been praying for.

Setting aside your original expectations, and exchanging your will for the situation for God’s perfect will, can help you through challenging times that threaten to crush you.

These verses about hope have seen me through trials, and I hope they encourage you today.

Romans 15:13 NASB “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Psalm 43:5 NASB “Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.”

Isaiah 41:10 NASB ‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

Lord, I thank you that you are a gracious and compassionate God, Who sees us through difficult times. I pray that You will remind us of hope through Your Word and Your presence each day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
