Finding hope in the darkness of grief

A death. A divorce. A diagnosis. While many people reserve the word “grieving” for the loss of a loved one, we can also be grieving the loss of an opportunity, a relationship, or of how we thought life was going to be. Grief has the ability to turn our lives upside down, to question ourselves, to wound us. But our God can use even the worst of times for His purposes in your life. Here are 3 verses that remind you how to finding hope in Christ even in the darkness of grief.

You are not alone in your grief

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39 ESV

Our hope is found in Jesus

“Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ..” 1 Peter 1:13 NASB

Our treasure is in heaven

““Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21 NKJV

Father, I pray for our hearts as we grieve whatever loss is in our lives. We thank You for being with us. We are grateful for the hope and grace we receive through You! Please help us to be finding hope in the darkness of grief. And keep our hearts and minds on eternity with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
