Five Bible Verses to Pray for Your Kids

It’s back to school time! Some people have children or grandchildren who have already started; others are waiting for their student to begin. It’s easy to worry right now. Take some time to pray. As Philippians 4:6 NLT says, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” Praying is of so much more worth than worrying!

Years of being a Moms in Prayer mom trained me to pray Scripture over my children. Finding verses which apply to your students and praying these verses with them in mind can put your mind at ease as you put your students in God’s hands. Here are a few verses you can pray for your student as they start school. If you’d like a printable with these verses on it, be sure to go all the way to the end of this post.

For their hearts:

2 Thessalonians 3:5 NASB “May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ.”

Pray that the student’s heart would be open to God’s direction and would see God’s love and Christ’s steadfastness.

For their safety:

Proverbs 14:26 NKJV “In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, and His children will have a place of refuge.”

Pray for the student to be in awe of God, to be confident in Him, and take refuge in Him.

For their walk with God:

Jude 1:24-25 ESV “Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.”

Pray that the student would look to God for the strength to walk in Him each day.

For their responsibilities:

Ecclesiastes 9:10a NLT “Whatever you do, do well.”

Pray that the student would be committed to the priorities God has given to them.

For their friends:

Proverbs 13:20 ESV “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.”

Pray for the student to seek out friends who make wise decisions.

What a privilege we have to trust God with these students! May your heart find rest as you turn to Him with your requests. “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 ESV.
