but take heart i have overcome the world, verse on a letterboard with a plant and a stork figurine on each side of the letterboard

In the Middle

Are you in the middle of a challenge or a trial? You know how it started, but you’re not sure how it ends. Someone who is trying to encourage you might give you this verse.

James 1:2-3 ESV “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.”

When you are weary, this verse may not hit you the right way. “Thanks, not only do I have to endure what I am going through, I have to be happy about it?!?”

Let’s be honest and realistic. We are all going to go through problems and trials of various kinds here on earth. We live in a broken world, and we will not go untouched by it. But God offers us hope and purpose even through the suffering.

James 1:4 ESV adds, “And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” The fact that trials equip us and refine us doesn’t make me want to sign up for them, but it does give me strength to face another day amidst challenges and problems.

And in John 16:33 ESV, we see, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” When it feels like the world is going to crush me, I can remember that Jesus has overcome the world.

Lord, I pray for my fellow Christians who are feeling burdened by their challenges today. May they let these circumstances bring them closer to You. May they be strengthened by You today. May they know that You have overcome the world! We love You and praise Your name, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

I am participating in the #hopewriterlife challenge. Today’s prompt was “Middle.”
