I have a picture collage with my kids, plus my nieces and nephews. I have been trying to remember to pray for all of them faithfully, and I’ve tried putting copies of the collages up around the house so that I can be reminded to pray. There are 7 of them total, so I’ve assigned a day of the week to each one, but that hasn’t worked as well as I have wanted either.
Today as I got on the treadmill, I remembered the picture, and decided to pray through all of them as I tried to make my way through 45 minutes of “it’s good for you!” exercise. And it was great! I thought of the verse I had been praying earlier – Numbers 6:24-26. “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.” I prayed this verse for each of them individually, plus adding a prayer request for each of them. At the end, I told God that I am putting them in His hands, and I do not need to worry about them today. This is an area which I struggle with, but why do I when our powerful and merciful God is watching over them?
I am sure there are many other ways to exercise and spend some time with God. My husband goes for quantity (lots of steps) over speed, as he walks and prays many times a week. Some people listen to worship music as they exercise.
It’s not something I will do every time I exercise because of the logistics of not being on a treadmill/not at home/having to concentrate, but it’s something I hope to make a habit of in order to be praying more for these precious people in my life.
