Strength for what lies ahead

“God doesn’t waste a moment of what we suffer through, though I wouldn’t mind not going through it!”, I texted to my friend. It had been a painful year, and God had been there for every minute of it. I could see how He had been faithful through even the toughest of times. His comfort, encouragement, and provision had all arrived in time for each need.

You may be in similar circumstances today. Maybe you are facing the biggest problem of your life thus far. Maybe you have friends rallying around you or maybe you are all alone. Yet with Jesus in your life, you are not helpless.

He gives us the strength to persevere by:
His Holy Spirit. Ephesians 3:16-17a NIV says “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.”
The Word of God. Psalm 19:7 ESV tells us, “The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul.”
His own strength. We read in Philippians 4:13 NKJV that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Indeed, the power is from God, and not from us! (2 Corinthians 4:7)

With that perseverance, we can minister to others. When I was younger and hadn’t been through a lot, I know that some of my older friends must have chuckled her way through my “problems”. They were definitely problems to me at the time. But with a wider perspective now, I realize that they weren’t that important. Now that I’ve gone through more trials, I am able to empathize better and understand more. It’s not the path that I would have chosen, but I am thankful that God isn’t letting one moment be wasted from the difficult times in life.

“He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” 2 Corinthians 1:4 NLT
